Features & Additional information

Signature presents, The Brass Soloist with Strings, a special release paying homage to the niche “Third Stream Jazz” projects from artists like Clifford Brown and Charlie Parker. This pack delivers a sophisticated collection of sounds, combining rich orchestral textures with the soulful swing of jazz. Featuring lush string arrangements, intricate piano lines, with smooth horn melodies accompanied by cool drums and bass grooves. This sample pack is perfect for creating cinematic soundscapes or jazz-inspired hip hop, soul and beyond. Third Stream Jazz emerged in the late 1950s as a fusion of jazz and classical music. The term was coined by composer and musician Gunther Schuller in 1957, who envisioned a “third stream” of music that blended the spontaneity and improvisation of jazz with the structure and techniques of classical music. Schuller, along with composers like John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet, sought to bridge the gap between the two genres, producing compositions that featured jazz improvisations alongside classical orchestration. This release features Grammy award nominated songwriter Christopher Michael Stevens (trumpet, composer), Marcus Myers (drums), Timothy Ragsdale on bass and Brandon Young on Piano. String arrangements were composed by Haein Kim (Cello), with viola and violin recordings done by Nastasja Vojinović. The rhythm section recording was conducted at Turtle Studios in Philadelphia and the string section was recorded by Soul Surplus’ own in-house GRAMMY award winning producer Joel McNeill. Whether you’re a composer, producer, or beatmaker, these versatile samples provide the perfect balance of refinement and creative freedom, bridging the worlds of jazz and classical music.
