The Creative Process:

“With this pack I wanted to explore a more raw direction for the series, drawing inspiration from the rich culture of ancient Norse history, touching on the occult, battle-hardened and contemplative aspects of their way of life.

Musically I tried to capture their fervour and vivid emotions – a different one in each piece, using the versatility of the cello’s sonic character to lead the way. While striving for historic accuracy and authenticity was a huge focus throughout, I also wanted to create a sound that was contemporary and so went for a hybrid style merging of designed synths, subs and pads to enhance the acoustic instrumentation.

Continuing my filmic scene approach to construction, contextualizing every piece in a physical space and atmosphere;  I wanted to push it further – and given the largely acoustic nature of this pack, decided a great way would be to create custom IR’s from various unique and characteristic spaces and then process all of the performed musical and vocal elements accordingly.” – Lhasa Mencur.
