Gritty Grimy Greasy

Loaded with gritty tape distortion, grimy one-shots, and greasy soul samples, this pack was inspired by the sound of the new hip hop underground, led by producers and artists such as The Alchemist and Griselda.

Everything has been done already—creating something original is about pulling from new references and adding your own viewpoint to them. In the same vein as RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) sampling dirty jazz records, this new generation is resampling dirty soul tracks. Recorded by New Orleans music producer Ceil Rouge, this pack features soulful melodic loops ran through an old cassette recorder for that authentic lo-fi vibe; dusty drum breaks; and one-shots. Ceil Rouge’s loops have been recently used in productions by Adlib and Westside Gunn. He also produced the Splice packs Dirty South Starter Pack, The Juice, and Loop Deville on LEX Sounds. These Gritty Grimy Greasy sounds were recorded in a studio with an all-analog front end (Neve eq/preamps, 1176/LA2A compressors, and SSL mixing board) and then summed through an old 8-track Tascam cassette recorder to add gritty analog textures.
