Engineered, performed, and produced by the talented Timmy Rickard, this album brings the magic of 1960s Detroit straight to your studio, capturing the essence of the iconic Funk Brothers who shaped the Motown era.

🎧 The Motown Sound, Perfected 🎧
Recreating the true 60s Motown sound wasn’t an easy task. Timmy Rickard meticulously studied the original recordings and setup, and we’re proud to say we’ve captured the authentic vibe. Each session was recorded in the spacious Livingston 1 studio in London, using a setup inspired by the original Motown band. The drums, brass section, and unique miking techniques provide the full, rich sound of Motown hits.

🎤 Recording Gear & Studio Details 🎤

Drum Kit: A vintage 1960s Ludwig Club Date kit, featuring:

20” x 14” kick drum
12” x 8” rack tom
14” floor tom
Four snares (Ludwig Pioneer, Ludwig Hollywood, and Slingerland Shelbyville)
Classic Zildjian Trans Stamp and Zildjian Constantinople Hammered cymbals used as rides and crashes
Vintage Zildjian hi-hats
Percussion: Tambourine, claps, and congas for that extra groove!
Remo Ambassador heads on all drums for authentic tone
Microphones: We used a carefully selected array of high-end mics, including:

Neumann U47’s & 67s
Coles ribbon mics
Sony C38b & AKG Valve C28
UA2-610, Telefunken V76, and Neve 1073 preamps
Recording Process:

Tracks were captured on 16-track Studer A80 2” tape machine, then transferred to Pro Tools for mixing and editing.
Drum tracks were mixed at Livingston 2 studio, using a Custom Series CS75 console powered by Neve, blending modern and vintage Neve tech to bring that classic warmth.
An EMT Plate Reverb stem is included on select drum tracks to recreate the reverb-heavy sound Motown is known for. 🌟
